Third Grade Curriculum Update

Virtue of the Month: To Wonder
These are the subjects and content area the students will be studying this
week. Please make sure that your child goes over these areas of study with
you.
Saxon Math: Lessons 128-130 and Assessment 25 on adding positive and
negative numbers, creating a coordinate plane, graphing points on a coordinate
plane, rounding numbers to the nearest thousand, and comparing and ordering
numbers to 10,000. *
Science: Unit on Ecology. Read and discuss about the natural world. How
living things depend upon each other, how natural cycles work, and a web of
living things. Learn about the crayfish and its habitat. The students will each
have a hermit crab to observe and take care of for the month. *
History: Start Unit on The Thirteen Colonies. Read and discuss lessons 1- 3 on
the English colonies, starting the Virginia Colony, and Captain John Smith. *
Religion: The children who want to and who have made their first Holy
Communion will begin getting trained for altar serving with Betty and Deacon
Mark. The church is a sign of the kingdom of God, Jesus describes Godʼs
kingdom, an invitation to the kingdom, eternal life, and the mustard seed.
Literature: Read and discuss the stories, Stickeen by John Muir, Sarah Mortonʼs
Day , The Little Match Girl, and If You Lived in Colonial Times. *
English: Journal writing. Cursive handwriting. Prefixes and suffixes. Phonics-
Lesson 30- more sight words. *
Vocab./ Spelling: Vocab.- Unit 13 on definitions, synonyms and antonyms of
words, completing the sentence and word associations. Spelling- Lesson 30 on
more sight words. Spelling Test and Vocab. Test on Friday. *
Check folder for: Reminders, Quarter 4 Progress Reports, information for May
and corrected work to be filed in their 3 ring binders.
Reminders: The SHA Good Bye BBQ is this Sunday after the 11:00 All School
Mass, from 12:30- 3:30. Hope to see you all there!
