Curriculum Guide for the Week of April 29 - May 3rd


Sacred Heart Academy 

Third Grade Curriculum Update

Date: April 29, 2013 

Virtue of the Month:  Graciousness and Courtesy/ Wonder  * 

These are the subjects and content area the students will be studying this  
week.  Please make sure that your child goes over these areas of study with 
you.  

Saxon Math: Lessons 121-124 and Assessment 23 on finding the volume of a 
rectangular prism, and dividing two- and three- digit multiples of 10 by a one-digit 
number, locating negative numbers on a number line, and dividing a two-digit 
number by a one-digit number.  * 

History:  Unit on The Explorers- Chapters 5 and 6 on John Cabot and Henry 
Hudson and Champlain and New France. * 

Religion:   Read and discuss Chapter 16 on We pray for faith, Stephen is called 
to serve, Joan of Arc, and what a creed is.  Memorize the Bible verse: Psalm 
119:19, “ I am but a pilgrim here on earth: how I need a map- and your 
commands are my chart and guide.”  

Literature: Read and discuss the stories, The People Could Fly, Three Words of 
Wisdom, William Tell, and The River Bank.  Learn the saying, “The show must go 
on.”  * 

English:  Journal writing. Cursive handwriting. Phonics- Lesson 28 on vv or vv 
with other syllable division patterns.  * 

Vocab./ Spelling:  Vocab.- Unit 11- on definitions, synonyms and antonyms of 
words, completing the sentence and word associations. Spelling- Lesson 28 on 
vv syllable division.  Vocabulary and Spelling Test on Friday.   

Check folder for: Reminders, information for May and corrected work to be filed 
in their 3 ring binders.   

Reminders: Shakespeare- Julius Caesar Performance is 1:15 and 7:00 on Wed. 
and Romeo and Juliet performance is on Thursday at 1:15 and 7:00.  ½ day of 
school is Friday with free dress. Fiesta Cinco de Mayo at Parish Hall is on 
Saturday, May 4th.  Whew!  A lot going on!  Hope to see you all there.
