Third Grade Curriculum Update

Virtues of the Month: Graciousness and Courtesy *
These are the subjects and content area the students will be studying this
week. Please make sure that your child goes over these areas of study with
you.
Saxon Math: Lessons 116-120 and Assessment 23 on identifying a function rule,
simplifying expressions containing parentheses, using the associative property of
multiplication, writing tenths using common and decimal fractions, measuring to
the nearest tenth of a centimeter, multiplying by 8, identifying the factors of a
number, and identifying prime numbers. *
Science: Ecology- food chains and webs, Earth Day. *
History: Unit on Exploration of North America: the search for El Dorado,
Spanish North America, and Two English Explorers. *
Religion: Session 24 on all life is sacred, treat others with respect, praise for
Godʼs creation, and knowing and sharing your faith.
Literature: Read and discuss Four Dollars and Fifty Cents. Answer
comprehension questions about the story. *
English: Journal writing. Cursive handwriting. Grammar on irregular plural
nouns. Phonics- Lesson 27 on “wild colt words.” *
Vocab./ Spelling: Vocab.- Unit 11 on definitions, synonyms and antonyms of
words, completing the sentence and word associations. Spelling- Lesson 27 on
wild colt words. Vocab. and Spelling Test on Friday.
Art: “ Icarus” by Henri Matisse, Drawing with Scissors lesson. Art show is
Friday evening at 6:00 in the Parish Hall.
Check folder for: Reminders, Book Report Form for April and Mayʼs Cereal Box
Book Report, information for April and May and corrected work to be filed in their
3 ring binders.
Reminders: Rubioʼs Fund Raiser is Monday night, All School Mass is Thursday
AM, a half day of school is on Friday and the Art Show is Friday eve. from 6-9 at
