Curriculum Guide for the Week of September 24-28


Date: Sept. 24, 2012

These are the subjects and content area the students will be studying this
week.  Please make sure that your child goes over these areas of study with you.

Virtues of the Month: Respect and Responsibility.  *

Saxon Math: Lessons 16-20 and Assessment 3- on writing the date using digits, dividing squares into two, four and eight equal parts, reading a thermometer to the nearest ten degrees, rounding numbers to the nearest ten, and using logical reasoning to solve a problem.  *

History: Review of Canada.  Go over test corrections. *
                                                         
Religion:  Conscious acts of caring - Community of love, traditions, being responsible.  We pray for unity and each other’s needs.  The Lord’s Prayer and why we pray.  Session 3- Jesus is with us.

Science:  Review of Classification of Animals – Mammals, Reptiles, Amphibians, Birds and Fish.  *
                                                      
Literature: Read Teacher’s Pet as a class.  Saxon Phonics- Lesson 4- on consonant digraphs (n before k).  *

English: Subjects and predicates.  Narrative writing and what makes up a sentence. Review the concepts of: consonants and vowels, twin consonants, short and long vowel sounds, and coding words.  *
                                                 
Vocab./ Spelling: Spelling Lesson 4 on the final k spelling rules.  Spelling Test on Friday.  *

Art & Music: Music - pitch, melodic direction. *

Check envelope for: Reminders, information for Sept. and Oct., progress reports, and corrected work to be filed in their 3 ring binders.

Reminders: Our special guest speaker will be here on Monday at 12:30 to talk about birds and have some birds for the children to pet and see!  All School Mass is Thursday morning at 8:00.  Please make sure the children are dropped off at the church no later than 7:55 in their regular school uniform.  Not their PE uniform.  September’s book report is due Friday, September 28th.   Back to school night is on Saturday at 5:30.  Hope to see you all there!
