Curriculum Guide for the week of October 8-12


Date: Oct. 8, 2012

These are the subjects and content area the students will be studying this
week.  Please make sure that your child goes over these areas of study with you.

Virtues of the Month: Self Control and Self Discipline. *

Saxon Math: Lessons 25-28 - on identifying dozen and half dozen, writing fractions, reading and writing numbers to 1,000 using digits, writing money amounts using $ and cents, reading and shading a thermometer to the nearest 2 degrees.  *

History: World Rivers- Lesson 3 – A River Viewed From Above and Lesson 4- Dangers and Navigation Along Rivers.  *

Religion: Session 6- Jesus’ Good News. 

Science:  The Skeletal System.  We will assemble a skeleton and talk about the parts of a bone. *
                                                       
Literature: Continue reading the book Bunnicula.   Write a short summary of the book.  *
                                                        
English: Writing complete sentences with correct punctuation.  Review of subjects and predicates.  Writing a mini research paper on an animal of their choice.  *

Vocab./ Spelling: Unit 1 in vocab. on definitions, synonyms and antonyms on words, completing the sentence and word associations.  Phonics- Lesson 6 on sight words.  Vocabulary Test and Spelling Test on Friday.  *

Art & Music: We will assemble skeletons.   Halloween pots for art decoration.  Music- Musical notation and Beethoven. *

Check folder for: Reminders, information for Oct., and corrected work to be filed in their 3 ring binders.

Reminders:  ITBS Testing will be completed in the morning hours of this week and next.  Please make sure your child is on time to school and well rested.   Our Field Trip to The Natural History Museum is on Wednesday.  We will leave school after mass that morning.  First Reconciliation and First Eucharist Mandatory meeting for parents is on Sunday, October 14th, or on Tuesday, October 16th at the Parish Hall.
