Third Grade Curriculum Update

These are the subjects and content area the students will be studying this
week. Please make sure that your child goes over these areas of study with
you.
Virtue of the Month: Courage. *
Saxon Math: Lessons 72-75 and Assessment 14 on rounding a number to the
nearest hundred, adding and subtracting fractions with pattern blocks, differences
of 5 and 6, and reading and writing Roman numerals to 31. *
Science: Start unit on Space and the Solar System. Moon phases. *
Social Studies: Ancient Rome. Read and discuss Chapters 6-8 on Cleopatra
the queen of Egypt, Julius Caesar dies, and Augustus Caesar. *
Religion: Session 13- on the Church Prays, Jesus is present in the Sacraments,
signs of grace, and gifts from God.
Literature: Read and discuss Roman Mythology. Read and discuss Comets,
Meteors and Asteroids. Go over the saying, “when in Rome, do as the Romans
do.”
English: Phonics Lesson 16- on accent, schwa, and vcv syllable division.
Journal writing. Review of nouns, common and proper. Cursive handwriting. *
Vocab./ Spelling: Vocab. Unit 6 on definitions, synonyms and antonyms on
words, completing the sentence and word associations. Spelling Lesson 16.
Spelling and Vocab. Test on Friday. *
Art: Art- We will be making Roman Mosaics and Roman soldier shields. *
Check white envelope for: Reminders, information for Jan., and corrected work
to be filed in their 3 ring binders.
Reminders: No school on Monday for observance of Martin Luther King Jr.
All School Mass is on Thursday. Please make sure the children are in their
SHA uniform, not their PE uniform. They should bring their PE uniform to change
into at recess. Half day of school is on Friday with dismissal at noon. Open
House is Sunday from 10:00- 1:30. Come check out what we have been doing
in the classroom and see what fourth grade is doing too for next year! Invite
some friends! Have a wonderful week!
