Third Grade Curriculum Update

These are the subjects and content area the students will be studying this
week. Please make sure that your child goes over these areas of study with
you.
Virtue of the Month: Courage. *
Saxon Math: Lessons 76-79 on adding three-digit numbers, identifying ordinal
position, reading and writing money amounts to $1,0000, and selecting coins for
a given amount. *
Social Studies: Ancient Rome. Read and discuss Chapters 8-10 on Augustus
Caesar, Roman Lands, and Roads, Bridges and Aqueducts. *
Religion: Session 13- Jesus sends the apostles, marks of the church, a model of
faith and courage, and St. Peter Julian Eymard.
Literature: Go over the saying, “ When in Rome, do as the Romans do.” Read
Comets, Meteors and Asteroids. *
English: Phonics Lesson 18 - on more sight words. Journal writing. Grammar-
Lesson 10 Nouns in the Subject. Cursive handwriting. *
Vocab./ Spelling: Vocab. Unit 7 on definitions, synonyms and antonyms on
words, completing the sentence and word associations. Spelling Lesson 18- on
more sight words. Spelling Test on Friday. *
Art: Valentine Art.
Check white envelope for: Reminders, information for Jan. and Feb., and
corrected work to be filed in their 3 ring binders.
Reminders: Catholic Schools week is this week. Please refer to the flyer that
was sent home this week for special activities and all that is going on each day.
Dismissal is at noon on Friday and the children are to wear their SHA uniforms,
not free dress. They will have free dress next Friday instead. Report Cards for
Quarter 2 go home on Friday.
