These are the subjects and content area the students will be studying this
week. Please make sure that your child goes over these areas of study with
you.
Virtue of the Month: Courage. *
Saxon Math: Lessons 66-69 and Assessment 12 on showing three- and four-
digit numbers using base ten blocks, subtracting 3 and 4, following a recipe,
setting a dial and determining elapsed time identifying the missing addend in a
“some, some more” story, and subtracting two-digit numbers. *
Science: Sound and Hearing- what does sound travel through?, vibrations, the
speed of sound, and pitch. We will go to the Ocean Beach Library for a
Sound Science Workshop put on by The Rueben H. Fleet Science Center
on Wednesday at 12:45! *
History: Start the Unit of Ancient Rome- Lessons 1 and 2 on the Legend of how
Rome began, Religion, and Roman style. *
Socratic Seminar: Lesson 8 – Pandoraʼs Box- a tale from Greece on curiosity. *
Religion: Session 11- on Jesus sends the Holy Spirit, Saint Katharine Drexel,
and the fruits of the Holy Spirit. The children will memorize: Galatians 5:22 – The
Fruits of the Holy Spirit are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity,
faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
Literature: Read and discuss stories from the book Children of the Earth and
Sky. Go over the saying, “ When in Rome do as the Romans do.” *
English: Journal writing. Phonics- Lesson 14 – on suffixes. We will start Cursive
handwriting letters I, t and a and o. Grammar - Prefixes and suffixes. *
Vocab./ Spelling: Vocab. Unit 5 on definitions, synonyms and antonyms on
words, completing the sentence and word associations. Vocab. Test on Friday.
Spelling Lesson 14 Test on Fri. on spelling words with suffixes. *
Art: Finish making Indian Masks and make Indian necklaces. Make Snowmen. *
Check white envelope for: Reminders, information for Jan., Field Trip form to
USD Nursing Lab, and corrected work to be filed in their 3 ring binders.
Reminders: A half day of school is on Friday with dismissal at 12:00 and
Free Dress. Have a super week!
