Third Grade Curriculum Update

These are the subjects and content area the students will be studying this
week. Please make sure that your child goes over these areas of study with
you.
Virtue of the Month: Perseverance (Enduring Adversity) *
Saxon Math: Lessons 86-89 on, identifying and solving larger-smaller-difference
problems, making and drawing arrays, estimating and finding the area of a
rectangle, and finding the sum of three addends. *
Science: The Solar System- the planets, the earth-like planets and the Giant
planets. *
Social Studies: Ancient Rome. Chapters 14-16 on the Romans and the
Christians, the decline of the Roman Empire, and the east and west. Share god
and goddess reports with 6th grade. The 6th graders will peer edit their reports
and work with them on finalizing their reports to present with them next week. *
Socratic Seminar: Lesson 11- on how you can tell the difference between good
and bad advice. *
Religion: Preparation for the sacrament of First Communion, Session 18. The
virtue of the month: Perseverance. Session 20- Lent and the preparation for
Easter.
Literature: Read and discuss myths from Ancient Greece and Rome. Continue
literature study on My Fatherʼs Dragon. *
English: Journal writing. Phonics- Lesson 20 on contractions. More review on
irregular plural nouns. Cursive handwriting. *
Vocab./ Spelling: Vocab. Unit 8 on definitions, synonyms and antonyms on
words, completing the sentence and word associations. Spelling Lesson 20.
Test on Friday. *
Art: We will be working on our class Gala project on Wednesday with Mrs.
Pennell, and then Mr. Anderson, (Elizaʼs Dad), will be making a “Profile Collage”
with the children on Friday! *
Check white envelope for: Reminders, information for Feb, and corrected work
to be filed in their 3 ring binders.
Reminders: No School on Monday due to the Presidentʼs Day holiday. Have a
wonderful week!
