Curriculum Guide for the Week of February 25 - March 1

Third Grade Curriculum Update

These are the subjects and content area the students will be studying this  

week.  Please make sure that your child goes over these areas of study with 

you.  

Virtue of the Month: Perseverance and Faithfulness. * 

Saxon Math: Lessons 90-93 and Assessment 17 on division facts of dividing by 

2 and 5, working backward to solve a problem, determining the likelihood of an 

event, and subtracting two- and three-digit numbers.  * 

Social Studies:  Finish up the unit on Ancient Rome.  Read and discuss Chapter 

16 on the decline of the Roman Empire and the east and west. * 

  

Religion:  Start preparation for First Eucharist: Chapters 1 and 2- on the 

sacraments of initiation, The vine and the Branches (John 15:1-17), the 

Procession and the Gloria, the Early Christians (Acts: 2:42-47), and we gather as 

a united community.   

                                                       

Literature:  The sayings: “a feather in your cap” and “last straw.”  Their oral 

Book Reports are due on Thursday and the children will start presenting them 

to the class on Thursday.  Continue with the unit study of the book, My Fatherʼs 

Dragon.  *  

                                                          

English:  Journal writing.  Finishing up writing their God and Goddesses reports.  

The sixth graders will be editing their papers for them.  Phonics- Lesson 21 on 

compound words.  Cursive handwriting. Grammar- common and proper nouns 

and nouns in the subject.   * 

Vocab./ Spelling: Vocab. Unit 8 on definitions, synonyms and antonyms on 

words, completing the sentence and word associations. Spelling Lesson 21- on 

compound words.  Vocabulary and Spelling Test on Friday.  * 

Art: Lent, solar system and Roman History.  * 

Check folder for: Reminders, information for February and March, The 

Heartbeat, and corrected work to be filed in their 3 ring binders.   

Reminders: The third grade has All School Mass this month, which is 

Thursday.  Come join us at mass and hear the children read the readings and be 

responsible for the parts of the mass.  The Gala Luau is this Saturday evening.
