Third Grade Curriculum Update

These are the subjects and content area the students will be studying this
week. Please make sure that your child goes over these areas of study with
you.
Virtue of the Month: Faithfulness. *
Saxon Math: Lessons 94- 97 and Assessment 18 comparing and ordering
fractions, identifying fractions that equal ½ using pictures and multiplying by 3,
units of weight and mass, subtracting money amounts, subtracting across zeros,
and showing time to the quarter hour. *
Science: Review of the Unit on Astronomy- our solar system, planets in motion:
orbit and rotation, earthʼs satellite: the moon, and the moonʼs shapes. The sun
and the stars- gravity, constellations, and the North Star. Solar System/Space
Test on Tuesday. *
History: Review Unit on Rome. Rome Test on Thursday. The children will
present their God and Goddess reports to the class and the sixth graders. They
may dress up as their Gods if they would like for extra credit. *
Religion: The sacrament of First Holy Communion preparation. Chapters 3 and
4 in their First Eucharist Book on we are forgiven, the Call of Matthew (Matthew
9:9-13), Eucharist is a Sacrament of unity and forgiveness, signing, the Sower
(Matthew 13:1-23), and God is present in the scripture.
Literature: Read and discuss The Night Sky, Finish up the Unit study on My
Fatherʼs Dragon.
English: Journal writing. Cursive handwriting. Grammar on nouns in the subject
and singular and plural nouns. Phonics- Lesson 22 on ghost letter digraphs. *
Vocab./ Spelling: Vocab. Unit 9 on definitions, synonyms and antonyms on
words, completing the sentence and word associations. Spelling Lesson 22- on
ghost letter digraphs. Spelling Test on Friday. *
Art: Holiday March art, leprechauns, “profile collage” and stained glass Lenten
crosses. *
Check white envelope for: Reminders, information for March, and corrected
work to be filed in their 3 ring binders.
Reminders: Another Open House is this Sunday from 10:30-1:00. Tell your
