Third Grade Curriculum Update

These are the subjects and content area the students will be studying this
week. Please make sure that your child goes over these areas of study with
you.
Virtue of the Month: Faithfulness. *
Saxon Math: Lessons 98-101 and Assessment 18 on writing mixed numbers,
measuring and drawing line segments to the nearest quarter inch, multiplying by
4, identifying parallel lines and line segments, finding the missing addend for a
sum of 100, and making change from $1.00. *
History: Finishing up presenting their god and goddess reports with the sixth
graders. Start unit on The Vikings – Traders and Raiders and Viking sailors and
ships. *
Religion: The sacrament of First Holy Communion preparation. Chapters 5 and 6
in their First Eucharist Book on the cross, the gifts and collection, washing of
the feet, the Last Supper, consecration and the tabernacle. Remember to be
doing the Faith at Home activities with your children.
Literature: Go over the sayings: “on its last legs” and “rule the roost”. Read and
discuss Arabian Knights. Phonics- Lesson 23 on vcccv, and v/cc/or vcc/v
patterns. *
English: Journal writing. Cursive handwriting. Review usage of predicates/
verbs. *
Vocab./ Spelling: Vocab.- Unit 10 on definitions, synonyms and antonyms of
words, completing the sentence and word associations. Spelling- Lesson 23.
Spelling Test on Friday. *
Art: Working on their “Profile Collage” and finding magazine pictures that
remind them of themselves. Lent and March art.
Check white envelope for: Reminders, information for March, and corrected
work to be filed in their 3 ring binders.
Reminders: Pi day is Thursday, (3/14), with a lesson from the eighth graders
and the whole school will also be eating pie. St. Patrickʼs Day mini celebration
will be in class on Friday with a green treat. Families will be at 11:00 that same
day. Half day on Friday with dismissal at 12:00. Sunday is All School Mass
and third grade is responsible for the readings and parts of the mass.
