Third Grade Curriculum Update

These are the subjects and content area the students will be studying this
week. Please make sure that your child goes over these areas of study with
you.
Virtue of the Month: Faithfulness *
Saxon Math: Lessons 101-105 and Assessment 20 on making change from
$1.00, identifying the properties of quadrilaterals, reading and writing five-digit
numbers, multiplying by 100 and by 1,000, writing a four-digit number in
expanded form, dividing by 3 and 4, writing multiplication and division fact
families, and identifying perpendicular lines and line segments. *
Science: Unit on Light and Color- mirrors: flat and curved, lenses, and what color
is light? *
History: Unit on the Vikings. Lessons 3 and 4 on Viking sailors and ships and
Eric the Red. Each child will make their own Viking ship! *
Religion: Preparation for the sacrament of First Communion. Chapters 7 and 8
in their First Eucharist Book on sharing a meal, the Bread of Life, (John 6:30-
58), we receive the Body and Blood of Jesus and the Communion Rite, blessing
for mission, Pentecost (Acts 2: 1-41), the Holy Spirit helps us do Jesusʼ work and
the dismissal at mass.
Literature: Read and discuss the book, Ramona the Pest, by Beverly Cleary.
Read and discuss The Hunting of the Great Bear. *
English: Journal writing. Cursive handwriting. Grammar- on present tense
verbs. Phonics Lesson 24 on more
sight words. *
Vocab./ Spelling: Vocab.- Unit 9 on definitions, synonyms and antonyms of
words, completing the sentence and word associations. Spelling- Lesson 24 on
more sight words. Vocabulary and Spelling Test on Friday. *
Art : Viking ships, Profile Collage with Mr. Anderson and Easter art.
Check white enveope for: Reminders, information for March, and corrected work to be
filed in their 3 ring binders.
Reminders: Thursday we have All School Mass. Also, remember that the
First Communion Poster is due next Thursday, March 28th. Thank you.
