Curriculum Guide for the Week of April 15- 19th


Sacred Heart Academy 

Third Grade Curriculum Update

Date: April 15, 2013 

Virtue of the Month:  Graciousness and Courtesy  * 

These are the subjects and content area the students will be studying this  
week.  Please make sure that your child goes over these areas of study with 
you.  

Saxon Math: Lessons 112-115 and Assessment 22 on identifying right, obtuse, 
and acute angles, naming triangles by angle size, measuring line segments using 
millimeters, and multiplication facts: multiplying by 6.  * 

Science:  Start unit on Ecology – the natural world, food chains.  * 

History:  Start unit on the exploration of North America - the early Spanish 
explorers, De Sotoʼs long march, and the search for El Dorado.   * 

Religion: Session 22 on making good choices.  How to make a moral choice, the 
ten commandments, and ways of being like Jesus.   

Literature:  Read and discuss the story, Teammates. Sayings: “the show must 
go on” and “touch and go”.  * 

English:  Journal writing. Cursive handwriting.  Phonics- Lesson 26 on vccvccv 
syllable division pattern.  * 

Vocab./ Spelling:  Vocab.- Unit 11 on definitions, synonyms and antonyms of 
words, completing the sentence and word associations.  Spelling- Lesson 26 on 
spelling words with vccvccv syllable division pattern. Spelling Test and Vocab. 
Test on Friday.  * 

Art:  Pastel and watercolor paint flowers.  “ 

Check folder for: Reminders, information for April and corrected work to be filed 
in their 3 ring binders.   

Reminders: The Scholastic Book Fair will be held on April 18 and 19th and then
the 21st after morning masses in the Parish Hall.
